Help for Teens and Older Kids
It is often difficult for older children and teens to find a professional with whom they feel comfortable discussing matters that concern them. Regular doctor visits are usually too short to give the teen time to get around to the issue they might most wish to address. Sometimes kids and parents are reluctant to consult a mental health practitioner — they may not know if the circumstances call for it or they may not be ready to commit to that type of therapy.
They can ask questions and may choose to share what’s bothering them without being rushed or judged or criticized. Sometimes they opt to simply receive the benefits of a therapeutic craniosacral treatment, to help them relax and find balance in their often chaotic and stressful lives. Respecting teens’ emerging independence, I make suggestions about ways that they may move through the problems they may be facing. It is my intention to help them develop healthy ways to face challenges and to learn how to practice self-care throughout their lives.
My teen patients quickly discover that the time that I spend with them is relaxed and open.
For older kids and teens, I offer medical and osteopathic treatment, support, counseling and development of self-care and coping skills for sensitive conditions such as:
Acne
Adjustment Challenges
Eating Disorders
Exercise and Weight Concerns
Coping with Physical or Medical Restrictions
Stress and Worry
Trauma and Abuse
Substance Use
Sexual matters
Learning Challenges, Developmental Disabilities
ADHD
Autism Spectrum Disorders

Referrals and Coordinated Care
If the patient’s situation requires more specialized medical or mental health care, I will help the family to identify appropriate professionals. Combining mental health therapy with the hands-on body centered treatments that I provide seems to help patients to improve more steadily and thoroughly than with either alone. With my patients’ permission, I communicate regularly with their therapists to coordinate our efforts and maximize support during their healing process.
